The American Association of Women Dentists (AAWD) is proud to open nominations for the 2026 Eleanor J. Bushee Senior Dental Student Award, recognizing senior dental students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, and a commitment to advancing the profession of dentistry.
This award honors the legacy of Eleanor J. Bushee, a trailblazer whose career reflected a deep dedication to education, mentorship, and service. After graduating from Northwestern Dental School in 1944 and practicing dentistry, Dr. Bushee transitioned into academia, where she served as a Professor of Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics and as Assistant Dean for Administration at Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine. She was also a published author and lecturer, known for her enthusiasm, professionalism, and impact on those she mentored.
Today, the Bushee Award continues that legacy by celebrating students who embody those same values—students who lead with integrity, pursue excellence, and contribute meaningfully to their dental school communities.
Who Should Be Nominated
This award is intended for senior dental students who have demonstrated strong academic performance and leadership during their dental education. Full eligibility requirements are outlined in the nomination form.
Award Recognition
Recipients of the Eleanor J. Bushee Senior Dental Student Award will receive:
- An upgrade to Early Career Dentist membership with AAWD in June
- A one-year extension to their current membership expiration date
- A certificate mailed to the nominator for presentation to the recipient
